There are very few things in this world that can instantly override my better judgment, and “new Lord of the Rings movie” is unfortunately one of them.
You could attach that phrase to almost anything, a questionable director, a suspicious studio decision, a plot that sounds like it was generated by throwing darts at Tolkien’s appendix, and I will still, against all logic, lean forward and go, “Okay but maybe.” That’s the power this franchise still has.
The original trilogy didn’t just work, it rewired what fantasy on screen could look like. And ever since then, everything has been stuck in this weird space between chasing that feeling and quietly proving how hard it is to recreate. So when I hear that a new film is coming, I’m excited. And when I hear who’s behind it, I immediately get cautious. Because this could be amazing. Or it could be another reminder that lightning does not, in fact, strike the same place five times.
