This bolt is worth $8000 and goes in a helicopter

You know the large pivot bolts that go through the frame/engine case and the big end of the suspension knuckle/swing arm, the ones that often has to be beat out with a BFH and punch? The ones that people talk about needing torches and cutting wheels to get out? Let’s talk about them things.

I’ve been in the habit of taking the suspension down every three years or so and greasing everything real good. I don’t follow the service guideline that’s in the manual; if I did I’d be doing it a couple of times a year. Kind of my bad. Meh.

The last time I took the big pivot bolt out I noticed an odd corrosion pattern. It looked like the bolt was under water, with a waterline that matched the lean angle of the bike. It seemed odd that so much water would gather in the frame, so I installed the bolt 180° from where it had been. Fast forward three years and the corrosion pattern is the same.
